Yesterday, my english teacher told me that why Indonesian students who study abroad could never be the best there. She told me the unique fact that the reason is Indonesian students are very ashamed to speak out. They never want to ask to the lecturer, never want to discuss (or just a little speaking out), and never want to show-off their ability to public. They are very shy to do that. I don’t know why it could be happen.
I think the poor of the Indonesian education system is one of the cause. Since elementary school or maybe kindergarten, we never be get used to speaking and writing. What we do in the class is just sit down, shut the mouth and listen to the teacher. We never be learned to share our opinion, make discussion with other, debating, and anything else that can improve our communication skill. We used to learning and not forced to be critical-minded.
In fact, Indonesian students is as good as other International students in knowledge. But due to their ashamed to show-off, nobody can see their potential talent. Unlike Indonesian students, other students from other country is more popular. Why ? Even though they have no such good skill like Indonesian, they are very eager to develop themselves by asking to the lecturer, discuss with other, or maybe just chatting with professor. Besides that, they also don’t hesitate to share their idea and opinion so that the lecturer and professor appreciate them more than the quiet students, like Indonesian students.
But anyway, we cannot blame our education system forever. We have to stand up and make a change. If we think that there is something wrong with the system and the government doesn’t even care with the improvement of the system, we have to break it up by ourselves. We cannot always make it as the main reason for our failure. We must be a “rebellion”. Therefore, in the future I hope we can prove to the world that we can be a superpower country.
Vini vidi vici, come, see, and conquer. That is the way of life.
